Luna, Apayao - Sta Marcela’s women’s volleyball team remained undefeated as it crushed Luna in a three-set thriller, in the process scoring their third win in as many games in a match today, February 3, 2023 at BGVJr. Memorial Sports Center, Poblacion, Luna.
The loss dropped Luna to 2-1 after winning its first two games.
Team Sta. Marcela was in full control of the first set with their consistent blockings and ground coverage as they commanded an early lead all the way to the finish with 25-18 as they close out first set.
It was the second set where both teams battled it out. Sta. Marcela showed dominance and started the set with two consecutive service aces. Luna then fought back and tied the score 5-5 as the first deadlock of the ball game. Both teams tied once again at 10-10 but a rally from Luna led by their setter Hazlene Cascayan stretched the lead 20-13 in favor of Luna.
The home team continued their run sealing second set 25-20 for a decider third set as the home crowd goes wild.
During the final set, a commanding start from Sta. Marcela was shown as they took early lead 6-2 coming from unforced errors of team Luna. Luna tried to fight back with a 3-0 run but was not enough. Momentum goes back to Sta. Marcela with 13-10 before the teams switch sides.
Momentum was still on the side of Sta. Marcela with a two straight points coming from service ace and unforced errors. Lead grew to eight with Sta Marcela leading 19-11 late in the final set.
Luna tried to mount a final push but Sta. Marcela's relentless defense was all over the floor.
A game clinching block was delivered by Catherine Torida of Sta. Marcela to seal the match. She led the offensive rally and archored the defense of her team to give the home town team their first taste of defeat in this Say-am 2023 volleyball tournament.
Sta. Marcela now tops the standing and will play Team Pudtol in their next outing.
