Sta. Marcela, Apayao - Sta. Marcela School District dominated the first leg of the on-going provincial sports selection meet amassing 45 gold, 13 silvers, and 13 bronze medals.
Initial medal tally posted by Schools Division Office (SDO) Apayao on its social media page showed Sta. Marcela jacked up its standing over the two-day event, turning the table in its favor, with 71 medals in total.
Pudtol and Luna followed with 59 and 55 medal earnings, respectively.
Calasan, Kabugao, Conner and Flora on the other hand will look to add more to their winning column as they try to bounce back in the second leg of the said sports meet next weekend, March 18-19.
The sports meet, which kicked-off last March 11, 2023 at the Apayao Eco-Tourism and Sports Complex (AETSC), Luna, saw students from various school districts in the province compete in a range of individual sports events, including athletics, taekwondo, chess and arnis.
Meanwhile, non-contested events of Cordillera Administrative Region Athletic Association (CARAA) such as, basketball, volleyball, baseball and other team events will be played on March 25-26.
As the sports meet progresses, the competition is expected to become even more intense, with athletes pushing themselves to their limits and striving for glory. The hot start of the sports meet has set the bar high, and the athletes are seen facing the challenge to become representatives for the regional sports competition slated some time in April.
