Luna, Apayao – About P5,679,000 has been proposed to be allocated to 50 Apayao Barangay Social Welfare Workers (ABSWWORKERS) for the year 2024 under the Apayao Socio-Economic Efforts Necessary for Growth (ASENG) program.
This shall be for the minimum daily wage of the ABSWW set at P430.
Said proposal was presented by the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO) and was deliberated on January 9, 2024.
The PSWDO discussed the specifics of the proposal highlighting a total of 50 ABSWWORKERS who shall benefit from it this 2024. The workers come from various municipalities of the province - 10 from Conner, 9 from Luna, 8 from both Pudtol and Calanasan, 7 from Kabugao, 6 from Flora, and 2 from Santa Marcela.
The initiative’s legal footing is the Provincial Resolution No. 80-A, 2020, entitled "A resolution granting omnibus authority to the Hon. Eleanor C. Bulut-Begtang, Province of Apayao, to hire through a contract of service Barangay Social Welfare Workers (ABSWWORKERS) in the Province of Apayao."
The origin of this program traces back to the exigencies imposed by the pandemic. Tailored to address the challenges posed by COVID-19, the services and programs were designed to be adaptive and responsive, aiming to mitigate the pandemic's impact on the health, economic, social, physical, and psychosocial well-being of the most vulnerable individuals, families, and sectors.
The post-pandemic ABSWWORKERS have been actively involved in various activities which include assisting in conducting sectoral profiling and consolidating updated master lists for persons with disabilities (PWDs), solo parents, youth, senior citizens, and children.
With the aid of said workers, continued efforts can be directed toward ensuring the implementation of services and activities focused on the care, protection, participation, and rehabilitation of children and youth facing difficult situations at the barangay level.
