Luna, Apayao - The Department of Tourism (DOT-CAR) conducted on-site evaluation of four of the province’s entry to Search for the Best Tourism Village in the Cordilleras last January 25-26, 2023.
Designated members of the assessment team from the DOT-CAR led by Tourism Officer Bayani Malicdem, in coordination with the Provincial Tourism Services Office (PTSO) visited the Agta Village, Sitio Bayugao, Turod and Marag Tourism Village, both in Luna, Abra Weavers Village in Sta. Marcela and Maton Isnag Village in Pudtol.
With the PTO's assistance, said tourism villages submitted their entries last month and will be competing with the six other provinces in the Cordillera.
Said search aims to recognize and award villages for embracing tourism as opportunities for growth and development and drive sustainable development in the countryside.
Criteria for the search include sustainable management (25 percent), cultural sensitivity (25 percent), socio-economic sustainability (15 percent), environmental sustainability (10 percent) and rural economic development (25 percent).
The Best Tourism Village will receive P1 million, the second placer will get P500,000 and the third placer will get P200,000 while five consolation prizes will also be awarded amouting to P100,000 each.dilleras last January 25-26, 2023.
