Kabugao, Apayao - The Local Government Unit of Kabugao reorganized the membership of its Municipal Price Coordinating Council (MPCC), during its first quarter MPCC meeting held yesterday, April 26, 2023 in Poblacion, Kabugao.
The reorganization, according to DTI-Apayao Provincial Director Wena Buston who facilitated the meeting, is much needed and a proactive initiative in the protection of consumer welfare.
The meeting also served for Kabugao-MPCC to formulate its 2023 action plan and tackle issues and concerns including pork price in the said town, entry of ambulant vendors selling products without the corresponding Mayor’s Permit, enhancing awareness on calibrated weighing scale importance, setting up of Timbangan ng Bayan, were likewise discussed.
As mandated by the national government, the reorganization and reactivation of the MPCC is necessary and urgent to forestall further hardships among the members of the community, in the light of the impending increase of the price of rice and other basic commodities due to the volatile movement in the price of crude oil in the world market.
It also caters for consumer protection purposes, and for a more purposive and sustained monitoring of selected prime commodities pursuant to Republic Act No. 7581, otherwise known as the Price Act, and Republic Act No. 71, otherwise known as the Price Tag Law.
Apart from monitoring as an MPCC function, it is also into policy recommendations to come up with interventions to arrest problems on trade, particularly on pricing and supply of commodities in the market.
“The MPCC-Kabugao should aim to help those who does not have much in times of disaster/calamity,” Acting Municipal Administrator and MDRRMO Matthew Pulog said stressing further the importance of the MPCC, which according to him is meant to better the lives of the people in normal times especially during disaster where prices tend to be ‘abnormal’.
