Luna, Apayao - Governor Elias Bulut Jr. commended Emil Peterson Borromeo, 15, a Grade 10 student of Apayao Science High School (ASHS) for bringing pride to the province once more after winning a silver medal in the recently conducted Thailand International Mathematical Olympiad (TIMO).
In his visit to ASHS earlier today, April 12, 2023, Bulut congratulated the young math wizard for his impressive performance in Pattaya, Thailand, leading him to outsmart more than 3,000 other students around the world who also took the challenge in the said international competition last April 2.
Earlier in January this year, Borromeo was also recognized in MOTLI National Awards Ceremony in Caloocan City for winning the same medal in the TIMO national level, which led him to represent the country in the international level this month.
Gov. Bulut praised Borromeo for his achievement, saying that he brought honor not only to his school but also to the province. He also noted that the accomplishment of Borromeo serves as an inspiration to other students to strive for excellence in their studies.
In an interview, Borromeo said he was overwhelmed with the recognition he received from the governor, teaching staff, and the entire province. He said he hopes to continue pursuing his passion for mathematics and inspire more students to take an interest in the subject.
Borromeo also expressed his gratitude to his coach Daine Gamiao, his teachers, schoolmates, and the provincial government who helped him prepare for the TIMO competition. He said their guidance and support were instrumental in his success.
Further, along with his hopes that Borromeo’s accomplishment will encourage more students to participate in the likes of this competition and be in the limelight of world-class talents, ASHS School Principal Danilo Cudiamat said they share the pride for Borromeo's fame.
ASHS, which was established in 2002, has been consistently grooming student-achievers in various national and international competitions.
After his short talk with the school staff, the Governor also inspected facilities and equipment of the school and pledged to provide additional resources to further enhance its capabilities in honing more students who can excel in various fields.
"We are planning to construct activity centers with good internet connectivity in our schools here in the province. We are currently in negotiations with Elon Musk's Starlink to provide us quality internet service and ASHS will be the first institution to benefit in this undertaking. We want to invest sa inyo kasi kayo ang future ng probinsiya."
