Flora, Apayao updates its Forest Land Use Plan

Flora, Apayao - The Local Government Unit (LGU) of Flora, in collaboration with the Provincial Governor's Office - Environment and Natural Resources Division (PGO-ENRD), the Philippine Eagle Foundation (PEF), and the United States Forest Service (USFS), took significant steps to upgrade the Municipal Forest Land Use Plan (FLUP) at the Flora Municipal Hall on January 19, 2023.

This effort involving key stakeholders such as PGO-ENRD Chief Marcelo Menor, PEF GIS Specialist Guillermo Obispo, PEF Project Officer/Biologist Ma. Susana Legaspi, Flora Municipal Marilou Valdez, and Mr. Sonny Butel, MENRO Officer, aimed at modernizing the Flora FLUP.

The goal is to establish a sustainable framework that ensures the well-being of Apayao forests while demonstrating a model for responsible growth and environmental protection.

The discussion emphasized the development of a Biosphere Reserve-ready FLUP, integrating it into the Municipality's Comprehensive Land Use Plans and the Biosphere Reserve Management Plan.

The meeting focused on planning, risk mapping, and addressing logistical concerns to ensure the successful implementation of the FLUP, fostering a collaborative environment to tackle potential challenges head-on when they come.
