Luna, Apayao - Small rice retailers in Luna and Pudtol, Apayao, were granted financial assistance from the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) in an awarding ceremony held at the DA-ROS Tumog Office last September 29, 2023.
Four micro rice retailers, participating in the DSWD’s Sustainable Livelihood Program – Economic Relief Subsidy (SLP-ERF), received a maximum cash subsidy of P15,000 each. This support aims to mitigate potential losses resulting from the national price cap on rice.
These retailers qualified for the assistance based on the guidelines outlined in Executive Order No. 39, Series of 2023, issued on August 31.
The order established a Mandated Price Ceiling of P45.00 for Well Milled Rice (WMR) and P41.00 for Regular Milled Rice (RMR) which affect small rice retailers’ income when rice prices increase.
Implemented since September 5, the price cap will persist until the President decides to lift it, as he promised during the campaign period to lower rice prices to as low as P20.
Collaborating closely with the DTI, the DSWD ensures that the financial aid aligns with the specific needs of these retailers amid challenging market conditions.
The presence of DSWD-SWAD (Apayao), DTI-Apayao, DA-ROS-Apayao, PNP-Luna, PNP-Apayao, and LGU-Luna, represented by the Municipal Agriculture Office and MSWDO-Luna, marked the awarding event.
The beneficiaries of the SLP-ERF express their commitment to utilize the financial support to augment their rice inventories for sale within the program's Mandated Price Ceiling framework.
