Flora, Apayao – Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Undersecretary Engr. Sancho Mabborang lauds the accomplishments of the provincial office of the department after site visitation and inspection of various science and technology facilities and projects in Apayao last October 27, 2023.
Usec. Mabborang's visit aimed to assess the progress and impact of these initiatives which are crucial for the development of the local enterprises.
Said visitation included stops at several key locations across the Lower Apayao.
Visited and inspected sites
• Purificacion Grains Trading in Flora: DOST provided necessary interventions through the Small Enterprise Technology Upgrading Program (SETUP). This facility is seen as an integral part of the province's agricultural and economic development for being one of the major rice and corn traders in the province.
• Maddie’s Fashion Design and Services in Santa Marcela: This local enterprise is supported by the DOST SETUP and seeks to boost the fashion industry particularly sportswear sewing.
• Dumapayao Farms Corporation in Luna. Said facility has been thriving with DOST's support, enhancing its production while ensuring sustainability.
• Apayao Livestock Agriculture Association (ALAC) in Luna. It has benefited from SETUP and LGIA, enabling the adoption of modern technologies in livestock farming. This initiative has boosted the local livestock sector of Luna and increased its competitiveness in the market.
• Apayao State College (ASC) : backed by and DOST initiatives, the ASC rolled out several projects such as the Natural Textile Fiber Innovation Hub, Processing of Enhanced Nutribun, and rejuvenation of the sericulture industry.
These facilities represent a crucial part of the province's economic landscape, providing local entrepreneurs and communities with opportunities to thrive and contribute to the province's overall growth.
The DOST's Small Enterprise Technology Upgrading Program (SETUP) and Local Grants-in-Aid (LGIA) initiatives have played a vital role in promoting innovation and technological advancements in various sectors of the province. These programs aim to equip local businesses with the necessary tools, technologies, and support needed to improve their products and services, ultimately driving economic progress.
In his talk, Usec. Mabborang underscored the DOST's commitment to strengthening science and technology advancements in Apayao. By supporting local businesses and initiatives, these efforts contribute to the overall prosperity and development. During his visit, he interacted with entrepreneurs, and beneficiaries of these programs, gaining insights into the real impact they have on the ground.
Present during the site visitation and inspection were Congresswoman Eleanor C. Bulut – Begtang, DOST CAR Regional Director Nancy Bantog, and DOST Provincial Director Engr. Debbie Glynn Manangkil.
