Luna, Apayao - The Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) in Apayao participated in the 35th Anniversary of the CAR-CARP (Comprehensive Agrarian Reform Program) alongside various provinces of the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR), celebrating the years of existence of the program as one of the breakthroughs in land reforms in the country.
The celebration, held in Baguio City from August 10 to 12, 2023, highlighted the importance of owning a land that someone cultivates.
The commemoration of the 14th anniversary of the R.A. 9700 CARP Law extended the acquisition and distribution of agricultural lands while introducing essential reforms. The law amended specific provisions of Republic Act No. 6657, popularly known as the Comprehensive Agrarian Reform Law of 1988, and allocates the necessary funds to facilitate these reforms.
Guided by a policy that prioritizes the welfare of landless farmers and farmworkers, the CARP envisions promoting social justice while propelling the nation toward sustainable rural development and industrialization. It also aims to establish owner-cultivatorship of economic-sized farms, acting as a solid foundation for Philippine agriculture.
With the theme, "Sariling Lupa para sa Bagong Buksan na Masagana," this year’s main subject delved on the empowerment of farmers.
Apart from lectures and talks, engaging contests were conducted fostering camaraderie among the provinces. The Friendship Game, featuring a spirited Tug of War, brought teams together in a display of unity. Additionally, the Region-wide Folk Dance Competition was a display of culture and talent, with the Province of Apayao earning the championship title. In another exciting event, the "Battle of the Provinces," Apayao secured an impressive 2nd place.
