Luna, Apayao - In a move to support the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) in the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR), the Local Government Units (LGUs) of Conner and Luna have donated a lot for the construction of a satellite warehouse and provincial office.
The Deed of Donation was signed earlier today, March 28, 2023, by the LGU officials and the DSWD CAR Regional Director Leo Quintilla in a ceremony held at the Conner and Luna Municipal Hall. The donated lot from Luna, which measures approximately 2,000 square meters is located in Barangay San Gregorio, while another 2000 square meters from Conner to host the satellite warehouse for upper Apayao is in Barangay Malama.
The satellite warehouse and provincial office will be used to store and distribute relief goods and other assistance to communities affected by disasters and emergencies in the region. The project is part of the DSWD's efforts to strengthen its disaster response capabilities in CAR, which is frequently hit by typhoons, landslides, and other calamities.
According to Luna Mayor Josephine Bangsil, the donation is a testament to the LGU's commitment to support the DSWD's programs and services. "We recognize the vital role of the DSWD in providing assistance to our constituents during times of need, and we want to ensure that they have the necessary facilities and resources to carry out their mandate effectively," she said adding that the donation will go a long way in improving the lives of those who need it most.
RD Quintilla thanked the LGUs for their generosity and said that the satellite warehouse and provincial office will be a valuable asset to the agency. "This will greatly enhance our capacity to respond to disasters and provide assistance to our beneficiaries in a timely and efficient manner. We are grateful to the LGUs of Conner, Luna and the Provincial Government of Apayao for their support and partnership," he said.
The construction of the satellite warehouse and provincial office is expected to begin soon, with completion targeted next year.
