Conner, Apayao - Miss Conner and Dayag ti Apayao runner up Kristeen Mae Boccang announced her intention to join the prestigious pageant Miss Philippines Earth last February 24, 2023.
In a facebook video posted by the official page of the pageantry, Boccang asked the support of her fellow yApayaos as she advocates environmental protection, highlighting the Isnag's indigenous way of conserving and protecting natural resources called Lapat System.
In an interview with the hopeful, she said joining the pageant has been her lifelong dream and she has been following it for years.
"I have been following Miss Philippines Earth for some time now and I have seen how it evolved and become more environmentally focused and that is something that really resonates with me." Boccang said.
Aside from her passion for environmental causes, she also hopes to use the platform to promote mental health awareness.
"Mental health is a crucial issue that needs more attention, especially during these trying times and I want to use my voice to raise awareness and help remove the stigma surrounding mental health." she added.
Miss Philippines Earth has opened its doors to new candidates for its upcoming season in which aspiring beauty queens who are passionate about environment can now apply to join the prestigious competition.
To be eligible to join the said competition, candidates must be at least 18 years old and not older than 26 years old, must have a minumum height of 5'4", and must possess Filipino citizenship. They must also be single, never been married, and never given birth.
The pageant has gained a reputation for being one of the most eco-friendly comeptitions in the world with its focus on promoting sustainable practices and environmental initiatives.
Miss Philippines Earth is not just a beauty pageant but also a platform for women who want to make a difference in the world with its focus on environmental awareness and sustainable practices, it also aims to empower women to become advocates for the planet and inspire positive change in their communities.
