Apayao Treasury Office encourages residents to pay their real property tax on time

Luna, Apayao- The Provincial Treasury Office (PTO) is reminding residents to pay their real property taxes on time to avoid problems in the future.

The provincial treasury office is currently in charge of collecting Real Property Tax (RPT), also known as Amilyar, from all municipalities of Apayao.

In its initial report, the RPT collection totalled Php 186,237.77 as of November 14, 2023.

Amilyar or RPT is a tax a real property owner must pay annually - a word derived from the Spanish word amillaramiento, meaning assessment of a tax. During the Spanish colonization, the datus who ruled their barangays collected this tax for security.

This is imposed by the Local Government Unit (LGU) where your real property is located under sections 197 to 283 of Local Government Code.

Real property owners must pay their amilyars on or before January 31 of every year. However, there is an option to pay your amilyar in four instalments if you cannot settle the tax in full. 1st quarter: on or before March 31, 2nd quarter on or before June 30, 3rd quarter on or before September 30 and 4th quarter on or before December 31.

Failure to pay on time will result in 2% of the unpaid amilyar amount per month with maximum of 72% for 3 years (36 months). After 3 year, the LGU may auction your property.

LGUs offer a 10%-20% discount for taxpayers who pay early or make advanced payments. Not only will enjoy a discount, but you will also avoid long queues and delinquencies.

The RPT is divided into two 50% for Basic and 50% for Special Education Fund (SEF). For Basic, 35% goes to the Province, 40% goes to Municipalities while 25% will go to barangay. In SEF, 50% goes to municipalities while 50% also goes to the province.
