The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) reported that the Provincial and Municipal Local Government Units (P/MLGUs) in the Province of Apayao have successfully complied with the national government’s directive to ramp up information campaign in the implementation of the recently enacted Republic Act 11934, also known as Subscriber Identity Module (SIM) Registration Act, in their respective communities.
Based on the DILG’s monitoring report, the LGUs of Flora, Luna, Pudtol and Sta. Marcela, including the Provincial LGU have established coordination with telecommunication companies and other concerned agencies to ensure that all information are harmonized before dissemination.
According to the DILG, all P/MLGUs except Conner, were able to conduct information drives using all forms of media, in reaching out to those in the remotest areas of their respective municipalities and took advantage of regular flag raising ceremony, council and committee meetings, barangay assemblies and other similar public activities to promote SIM registration.
The DILG also reported that all P/MLGUs, except Conner and Calanasan, used their Office LGU Facebook accounts as a prime intervetion in compliance to said law,
RA 11934, the first law signed by President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., aims to regulate the registration and use of SIMs by mandating all end-users to register their SIMs with their respective telecommunications networks before their activation.
The implementation of the law will not only prompt accountability from all sides - the mobile users, the telcos, the government and authorities - but will also help the Philippine National Police (PNP) to quickly locate offenders of crimes committed in anonymity through the use of electronic devices, DILG said.
The full implementation of SIM registration law started in December 27 and is expected to end 60 days after.
