Luna, Apayao - As the Provincial LGU's way of showing support to the welfare of solo parents, the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO) held a caravan of the various programs and services for solo parents in Apayao today, January 12, 2022 at the ECBJR Multipurpose Building and Evacuation Center in San Isidro Sur, Luna, Apayao.
The activity is done in partnership with national government agencies offering various assistance programs that solo parents can avail from.
Among the said benefits include employment from the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), legal assistance from the Public Attorneys Office (PAO), education and training scholarship from Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) and Apayao State College (ASC), medical benefits from Philippine Health Insurance Insurance Corporation (PHIC) and other social benefits from the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) and Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA).
In her welcome address, Provincial Social Welfare and Development Officer Ms. Jocelyn Loyon introduced the activities to be undertaken during the program. "This is a kick off activity of the Expanded Solo Parents Welfare Act of 2022 and we are the first province in the Cordillera to have a provincial caravan for solo parents this year." Loyon said.
Graced by Provincial Administrator Atty. Edmar Pascua who delivered a short message, he stated that "Solo parents are to be treated as priorities when availing services of the provincial government."
"Do not be discouraged. There is hope for these children and the provincial government will provide the adequate assistance for you and your children. Raise them to become a responsible member of the community and ultimately, the country." Pascua added.
Further, Vice Governor Remy N. Albano inducted the new set of officers of the Apayao Federation of Solo Parents (AFSP) led by its president Remily Cachero.
Simultaneous with the program is a free medical check up to the solo parents and their children conducted by the Provincial Health Office.
