Luna, Apayao - The most anticipated and grandest celebration in the province, the Apayao Say-am 2023, officially began today, February 01, 2023, with the opening of the Sports Festival 2023.
The activity served to usher in two-week long festivities in commemoration of the province's 28th foundation day slated from February 01 to 12.
Participated in by delegations from the province's seven municipalities, officials and employees from the provincial government, national government agencies and other stakeholders in the province, the activity started with a motorcade from the Apayao welcome arc in Quirino, Luna, and culminated in an opening program held at the BGVJR Memorial Sports Center in Poblacion, Luna.
Gracing the occasion were collegiate stars, Ateneo Blue Eagles Middle Blocker Pia Ildefonso and National University Bulldogs Combo Guard Donn Lim, to whom Governor Elias C. Bulut, Jr. in his message said, "your presence is timely with our goal to boost the engagement of kabataan in sports."
Luna Mayor Josephine M. Bangsil in welcoming the delegations expressed hopes for a victorious celebration, sharing that the occasion is not just about commemorating the progress and development of the province, "but also about commemorating the love and bravery of EKB through the passage of RA 7878."
"Sapay kuma ta agtalinaed ti panagkaykaysa, ayat ken kapya para iti agtultuloy nga panagprogreso ken panagdur-as ti probinsiya tayo nga Apayao," Bangsil added.
Bangsil also went on to remind all athletes to be guided by the spirit of sportsmanship althroughout the games scheduled starting this afternoon.
The sports fest opening was also highlighted by the dance showdown of athletes where Luna was declared having the best dance rendition, and the presentation of muses, where Pudtol took home the "Best Muse" award.
