Luna, Apayao - The new Apayao Provincial Veterinary Office (PVO) diagnostic laboratory was officially inaugurated last April 11, 2023 and will soon operate.
This is part of the installation of an animal health services and research building which was done during the time of former Governor and now Congressman Leah Bulut-Begtang.
The diagnostic laboratory is expected to provide state-of-the-art services, benefitting the livestock and poultry industry in the province. Additionally, it shall serve as an animal health services and veterinary research hub to improve quality and safety of animal products.
Gov. Elias C. Bulut, Jr. and Department of Public Works and Highways - Apayao Second District Engineering Office (DPWH-ASDEO) Provincial Director Engr. Ronalyn Ubiña led the ceremonial ribbon cutting. The ceremony was also attended by provincial department heads, local officials, PVO staff and other stakeholders.
In his remarks, Gov. Bulut expressed his gratitude to the DPWH-ASDEO for their support in the construction of the facility. He also highlighted the importance of animal health in ensuring the growth and sustainability of the province's agriculture sector.
The new PVO laboratory will be equipped with modern equipment and technology for animal diagnosis, including microscopy, Convection Polymerase Chain Reaction (cPCR) machines, and microplate readers. The laboratory will provide a range of diagnostic services, including bacterial and viral culture, serology, and parasitology. The facility will also offer pathology services, including necropsy and histopathology, to help identify the cause of animal diseases and recommend appropriate treatment.
Further, the PVO laboratory will play a critical role in improving the health and productivity of the province's livestock and poultry industry. Its diagnostic services will help prevent and control the spread of animal diseases and ensure the quality and safety of animal products. Its advanced technology will also enable faster and more accurate diagnosis, leading to better treatment and management of animal health issues.
The Apayao PVO laboratory is one of the latest additions to the Department of Agriculture's (DA-CAR) network of animal health laboratories in the region. It is part of the government's efforts to enhance the capacity of the veterinary sector to address the challenges facing the livestock and poultry industry.
