Flora, Apayao – Apayao - Provincial Veterinary Office (PVO), in partnership with the Municipal Agriculture Office (MAO) of Flora and Luna, commemorated World Rabies Day from September 25-28, 2023 with free animal health care services.
The province is doing its part in combatting rabies virus which is considered to be the most dangerous as once a person is infected and in the last stages, the fatality rate is 100 per cent. According to DOH, rabies remains to be the most acutely fatal infectious disease taking 250-300 lives of Filipinos annually.
With a focus on curbing rabies transmission, the PVO provided complimentary services such as anti-rabies vaccinations, consultations, deworming, and vitamin/mineral supplements for animals.
Celebrating the occasion, they reached out to households in barangays San Jose, Atok, Anninipan, Allig, Balluyan, and Santa Maria in Flora, vaccinating 196 dogs across 121 households.
Meanwhile, in the municipality of Luna, the PVO covered barangays San Isidro Norte and Quirino, vaccinating 315 dogs in 128 households.
Deworming was administered to 77 dogs, and 63 received vitamin supplementation during these efforts. This initiative extends to all municipalities in the province, ensuring free veterinary medical services, with future medical missions planned.
