Luna, Apayao - Representatives of the Provincial Veterinary Office (PVO) underwent training on Convection Polymerase Chain Reaction (cPCR) conducted by Department of Agriculture - Cordillera (DA-CAR) last January 17-19 in Baguio City.
The cPCR is a system developed for an easier and faster detection and diagnosis of African Swine Fever (ASF) virus among pigs in an effort to mitigate its threat in the region.
Due to the prolonged process of virus detection in the province, as samples were being brought to Regional Animal Disease Diagnostic Laboratory in (RADDL) in Region II, Apayao is one of the most ASF affected provinces in the region for 2022.
With enough training and technical-know-how on cPCR, the province of Apayao is now equipped to have its own laboratory to detect and diagnose animal diseases such as ASF. Shorter detection period would mean faster administration of necessary mitigative measures.
A cPCR equipment was then awarded by DA-CAR Chemist Maribel Mananguit to the personnel of the PVO. Having such equipment along with the establishment of a laboratory will capacitate the said office to perform diagnositic procedures for ASF in the province.
Present during the training were Provincial Veterinarian Dr. Ralph Verzon, Dr. Leitleton B. Tadena and Dr. Lei Robelle Domingo.
