Luna, Apayao- The Sangguniang Panlalawigan of Apayao is encouraging companies involved in power generation to explore the renewable energy potentials of the province and to invest in the development and utilization of the same.
The local legislative body made this definite stance through Provincial Resolution No. 164, series of 2022 adopted on December 06, 2022.
Apart from it being anchored on President Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr.’s agenda on Affordable and Clean Energy, said legislative measure is in response to Regional Development Council in the Cordillera (RDC-CAR) Chairperson Governor Elias C. Bulut, Jr.’s renewable energy direction in the region.
The resolution cited that Apayao is the host of the mighty Apayao River which flows from an extensive watershed in the western slopes of the province going down to the coastal town of Abulug, and thus, DOE’s assistance in maximizing its potential through its Renewable Energy Management Bureau (REMB) is much needed.
In line with this, Gov. Bulut stated during RDC’s 2022 last quarter meeting that once renewable energy businesses are set up, employment opportunities will be opened and economic activities revitalized, pursuant to the RDC-CAR’s vision of a flourishing pace of development, especially in the depressed areas of the region.
“Renewable energy power plants are not cheap to build that is why foreign direct investments are needed to provide the needed capital to put up the plants, thus, concerned government agencies regulating the influx of money from overseas should come in handy in this said endeavor,” Bulut explained.
