Luna, Apayao - This year’s first quarter saw a slight increase of Total Crime Incidents (TCIs) in the province, the Apayao Police Provincial Office said Monday, March 6, 2023 during the Provincial Peace and Order Council (PPOC) meeting held in Luna, Apayao.
Compared to the same period last year (January to March 2022), APPO peace and order updates presented yesterday showed 21 recorded crimes from January to February 2023 or higher by six compared to the previous, with special laws violation, rape, Reckless Imprudence (RI) cases, and other non-index crimes comprising the most of the crimes logged.
Of said crimes committed, special laws violation registered the highest incident with five cases, followed by rape and non-index crimes with four incidents each, and RI cases such as resulting to homicide, damage to property, and physical injury, murder and attempted/frustrated stage accounting for the rest of the recorded cases.
APPO noted that to date, Pudtol registered the highest crime rate in the last two months at five, while Calanasan retained its record of having the lowest recorded crime with only one.
Despite said increase, Apayao still holds the record for being the most peaceful province in the Cordillera in 2022 as cited by the Police Regional Office Cordillera (PROCOR) in January this year.
In order to sustain such rapport, APPO said they are implementing a range of measures designed to increase public safety and to further reduce crime incidence in the province. These include increased patrol in high-risk areas, enhanced community policing efforts, and more partnership with community organizations and local businesses.
Meanwhile, the Apayao police is encouraging the community to actively partner with the police force in all its peace and order undertakings by remaining vigilant, staying informed about crime trends in their community and by reporting to the nearest police station, without any hesitation, any possible threat to peace and order in their respective localities.
