Luna, Apayao - Governor Elias C. Bulut, Jr. led the turnover of utility vehicles to the five district hospitals in the province at the Capitol grounds in San Isidro Sur, Luna Apayao this morning, January 19, 2023.

With the provision of the utility vehicles, faster transactions and completion of work such as procurement, delivery of medical supplies and transmission of documents are expected.

Receiving said vehicles were Chiefs of Hospitals (COH) namely Dr. Jarrete Bermejo of Apayao Provincial Hospital (APH) in Kabugao, Dr. Amy Liza V. Maruquin of the Flora District Hospital (FDH) in Flora, Dr. Mary Elisa Galleon of the Amma Jadsac District Hospital (AJDH) in Pudtol, Dr. Ruben Delos Reyes of the Apayao District Hospital (ADH) in Calanasan and Dr. Roy V. Julian of the Sta. Marcela District Hospital in Sta. Marcela.

"Parts of our efforts to comply with the requirements of the Universal Health Care (UHC) law is to equip our hospitals with utility vehicles," Bulut said in his message expressing his vision to further improve the province's health care system.

Bulut also noted that, for a while now, access and mobility has been a recurring challenge for the rural health units if only to deliver health services to communities in the Geographically Isolated and Depressed Areas (GIDAS) in the province. "And the provision of these [vehicles] is just our initial intervention."

"We are very much thankful for the continuous enormous support of the provincial government to the health sector, and this is another sign," Dr. Julian said in his acceptance message.

"Rest assured that it [the vehicle] will serve its purpose," Dr. Maruquin added.

In support of Maruquin's statement, Bermejo said "It will aid us in the delivery of quality health care services under the UHC."

For his part, Delos Reyes shared his experience in Calanasan where he acknowledged the support of the municipal government by always lending their vehicles to the ADH in times of dire need.

"Now that we have our own utility vehicle, we can now be more mobile in catering to our two extension clinics in Namaltugan and Tanglagan," Delos Reyes said pertaining to the Andres Sipagara Lying-in Clinic (ASLIC) and Tanglagan Lying-in Clinic, respectively.

Bulut meanwhile reminded the recipient-hospitals to be more disciplined in the use of their vehicles ,"tapno saan masayang. And I hope your drivers are trained, with at least an NC-II qualification for us to be assured that these are well-managed.
