Baguio City - The Provincial Local Government Unit of Apayao joined the workshop on the formulation of the province's Risk Resiliency Program – Climate Change Adaptation and Mitigation Disaster Risk Reduction (RRP-CCAM-DRR) Plan held in Baguio City on February 20-23, 2023.
The activity was intended to assist Provincial Local Government Units (PLGUs) in the crafting of said plan.
Representing the PLGU was a composite team from the Provincial Engineering Office (PEO), Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO), Environment and Natural Resources Division (ENRD) and Provincial Office for Agricultural Services ((POAS).
DSWD-CAR Assistant Regional Director for Operations Amelyn P. Cabrera who led the activity's opening program said she is looking forward to coming up with a plan appropriate to each province saying "with the world's climate continuously changing, the need to cope with these changes and movements by adjusting strategies, capacitating personnel and setting aside adequate funds and having proper advocacy."
During the activity, each province was given a chance to share their good RRP practices in their respective localities followed by a workshop for the finalization of the Risk Vulnerability Assessment Matrix (RVAM), facilitated by Mr. Rowell Ramil Jacinto and Mr. Kelvin Fugaban, Project Development Officer III of DSWD Central Office.
It was also attended by Kalinga Governor James Edduba on Wednesday as a guest speaker. In his message, the Governor, also a former DSWD employee, shared his experiences and stressed that planning and community empowerment are crucial to the success of DSWD programs like RRP-CCAM-RRP.
The RRP-CCAM-DRR is one of DSWD programs that aims to increase the adaptive capacities of vulnerable communities, with the agency providing labor cost for projects and activities relative to the adaptation and mitigation of the impacts of climate change and reduction of disaster risks through the Cash for Work modality.
