Luna, Apayao - The Apayao Provincial Local Government Unit (PLGU) initiated a three-day Camp Coordination and Camp Management (CCCM), and Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) Protection Training on April 17 to 19, 2023 at the RJ Domingo Fish Farm Resort in Alem, Pudtol, Apayao.
The said training was attended by 61 municipal and provincial LGU personnel (response cluster) including barangay officials of Capagaypayan, Luna, who were engaged in various interactive activities and simulation exercises.
CCCM was designed specifically for managing displaced communities and equipping local authorities based on internationally recognized key principles of camp management. The training provided is intended to capacitate the participants in addressing issues related to human displacement management, contingency planning, and response to emergency situations.
Said training was spearheaded by the Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office in partnership with the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO), with subject matter experts coming from the DSWD-CAR.
Local DRRM Officer Joeffrey Borromeo said the activity is part of the initiative of the provincial government to empower communities and help the barangays ensure that the evacuation center facilities are kept in good working condition. “And this could only be accomplished by training teams of community representatives who will oversee the management and operations of the community evacuation centers.”
The three-day training tackled topics including introduction to disaster risk disaster management, overview of community hazards and vulnerability, humanitarian response, and family preparedness, to name a few.
With the conduct of the trainings, the provincial government hopes that the participants will soon be partners of the Municipal and Provincial DRRM offices in disaster response and in managing evacuation centers, considering that the occurrence of natural calamities in the province is of high frequency.
