Conner, Apayao - The Provincial Government of Apayao (PGA) conducted a distribution of much-needed assistance to senior citizens and bedridden individuals in Conner last September 6, 2023 at the Senior Citizens Office in said town.
During which, PSWDO Jocelyn Loyon shared the good news that senior citizens between the ages of 90 and 99 will receive an annual financial support of Php20,000 from the provincial government.
In her talk, Loyon likewise expressed hope that the government would consider lowering the qualifying age to 85 years and above, enabling more seniors to enjoy their financial benefits.
For PWDs, in-kind products worth Php2,000 were distributed.
Additionally, the PSWDO mentioned of their desire to provide a monthly aid of at least Php500 to PWDs, similar to the support provided to senior citizens.
To date, there have already been 23 senior citizens aging 90-99 who benefitted from the program.
Meantime, Janine Vergara, representing the Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office (MSWDO) of Conner LGU, related that the distribution had commenced earlier for individuals aged 95 to 99.
Given the Department of Social Welfare and Development's (DSWD) recent adjustment of the age requirement to 90, they will extend the assistance to those aged 90 to 94.
John Fao-anan of LGU Conner also delivered an inspiring message to the recipients, telling senior citizens about a legislative resolution of the Conner proposing a Php10,000 incentive for those aged 80 and above. However, he noted that the current funding was insufficient, expressing hope that additional funds would be allocated for this purpose in the coming year.
