Luna, Apayao - The Provincial Government of Apayao (PGA) and Department of Education - Apayao (DepEd-Apayao) conducted the 2023 first quarter Provincial School Board (PSB) Meeting today, February 23, 2023 at Capitol Conference Hall, Luna.
During the said meeting, Governor Elias C. Bulut, Jr., signified his willingness to again host the Cordillera Administrative Region Atlethic Association (CARAA) games come April, owing to the province's exemplary performance in the aforesaid regional sporting event back in 2019.
Bulut said that the bid to host the regional sporting event will maximize the use of facilities available at the Apayao Eco-Tourism Complex (AETC) and shall likewise serve as a good venue in promoting products and services of the small enterprise owners from the province's seven municipalities.
The matter, however, will still be subject to discussions with other local stakeholders, Schools Division Superintendent Benedicta B. Gamatero said, and later bring it up to the CARAA board as well as to the Regional Development Council (RDC) who will have the final say abouy the said undertaking.
Bulut directed the DepEd to come-up with a proposal in advance, indicating budget estimates for logistical needs and other financial requirements to ensure the successful conduct of the event, should the RDC agree to it.
It can be noted that in 2019, Apayao was the host of the CARAA meet wherein the province placed second in the overall standings just behind the powerhouse Baguio City.
Meanwhile, DepEd also announced that the Division will push for the Provincial Meet next month to sort out athletes who shall be representing the province to the CARAA.
For this, League of Municipalities in the Philippines (LMP) President and Pudtol Mayor Hector Reuel D. Pascua encouraged DepEd to push for the other sports activities during the provincial meet, especially those that were excluded for this year's CARAA per directive from their regional office saying, "our learners have long been excited to engage themselves in events like this, thus, we must not neglect them."
