Luna, Apayao - Apayao Provincial Health Office (PHO) has launched an Information and Education (IEC) campaign to raise awareness about the upcoming Measles-Rubella and Oral Polio Vaccine Supplemental Immunization Activity (MR-OPV SIA) in the province.
The MR-OPV SIA aims to vaccinate children aged 9 months and below 5 years old against measles, rubella, and polio.
The month-long campaign is part of the PHO's efforts to prevent the spread of these diseases and protect the health of the community.
According to Apayao PHO, the vaccination campaign will start on May 1, 2023, and will run until May 31, 2023. The PHO is targeting to vaccinate over 25,000 children in the province during the campaign.
To ensure that parents and guardians are well-informed about the importance of the MR-OPV SIA, the PHO has been conducting information and education drives in various barangays and municipalities. The PHO has also been coordinating with local government units, schools, and community organizations to disseminate information about the vaccination campaign.
Dr. Mark Calban, the Provincial Health Officer, emphasized the importance of vaccination in preventing the spread of diseases. He urged parents and guardians to have their children vaccinated and assured them that the vaccines are safe and effective.
"The vaccines are proven safe and effective in preventing the spread of these diseases. Let us work together to protect the health of our children and our community, so we encourage parents to bring their children to the vaccination sites and have them vaccinated against measles, rubella, and polio. " Dr. Calban said.
The IEC is ongoing and will continue until the start of the vaccination campaign. The PHO hopes that through this effort, more parents and guardians will be encouraged to have their children vaccinated and ensure the success of the MR-OPV SIA in the province.
