Manila, Philippine - Municipal mayors in Apayao led by LMP-Apayao Chapter President Hector Reuel D. Pascua joined the League of Municipalities of the Philippines (LMP) General Assembly held yesterday at the Grand Ballroom, Manila Hotel to get updated and discuss matters regarding local governance, delivery of basic services and other concerns.
This assembly was attended by hundreds of local executives across the country.
The activity was graced by Vice President and Education Secretary Sara Duterte who in her speech reminded local chief executives not to hire public school teachers based on favors and patronage, where one gets hired based on political and family ties, instead, base it on the ranking by the Department of Education (DepEd).
On the part of the teachers, principals, superintendents, regional directors, and assistant regional directors, the Vice President urged them to remain “professional” and to not take the side of any politicians.
The activity was realized in compliance with DILG Memorandum Circular (MC) No. 2023-007 dated January 13, 2023.
With the 2023 LMP theme “Strengthening Municipal Capabilities Around Autonomy and Fostering Resiliency,” the assembly served as a venue to discuss issues under the proposed amendments to Executive Order No. 138 and to tackle the different challenges faced by municipal mayors that could improve service delivery to their localities.
The assembly that will last until tomorrow, Jaunary 23 will also usher in Island Cluster sessions to discuss various important topics and which output will be collated to create a declaration that will be submitted to PBBM during the President’s Hour.
Discussions will include the implementation of the Local Integrated Coastal Management Plan and Forest Land Use Plan (FLUP) for Luzon, collaboration with the national government to boost local tourism aligned to the National Tourism Development Plan for Visayaz and the Strengthening Peace and Order and Implementing their Public Safety Plan for Mindanao
