Apayao LCEs join General Assembly of the League of Municipalities of the Philippines


Pasay City – All Seven (7) municipal mayors from the province attended the 2024 General Assembly of the League of Municipalities of the Philippines (LMP) from February 27-29, 2024, held at the Marriot Grand Ballroom in Pasay City.

 

The LMP is a non-profit and non-governmental organization representing all municipalities in the Philippines, assembled with the primary objective of addressing and resolving municipal governance issues through proper channels and legal frameworks.

 

With over 1,000 mayors from across the country in attendance, the assembly, under the leadership of LMP National President La Paz and Abra Mayor Joseph Bernos, the theme of the assembly centred on "Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Localization: A Pathway to Sustainable Municipal Development."

 

President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. delivered the keynote address, emphasizing the importance of local government executives in realizing the vision of a "Bagong Pilipinas." He highlighted the significance of their role as the frontline of governance entrusted by their constituents.

 

President Marcos stressed the necessity for a collective approach between national and local governments, emphasizing the importance of aligning efforts toward economic growth, political stability, and national development.

Furthermore, he urged officials to prioritize meaningful projects and community engagement over trivial matters, stressing the significance of long-term initiatives aligned with the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) established in 2015.

 

In line with the commitment to address climate change, President Marcos revealed that the national government allocated P457.41 billion this year for various climate-related expenditures, including investments in water security, sustainable energy, environmental stability, and social services.

 

President Marcos likewise pointed out the need for synergy among different stakeholders, including local government units, civil society organizations, the private sector, and communities, to effectively achieve the SDGs within the designated timeline.
