Apayao DRRMO holds climate and disaster risk assessment workshop to improve preparedness

Baguio City—The Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) is currently conducting a five-day Climate and Disaster Risk Assessment (CDRA) workshop in Baguio City as one of the ways to prepare and improve disaster response in the province.

The activity that started on Monday, February 20, 2023, gathered planning teams of all Local Government Units (LGUs) composed of seven members including Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Officers (MDRRMOs) and Municipal Planning and Development Coordinators (MPDCs).

The workshop is held in partnership with the Provincial Planning and Development Office (PPDO) with the Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development – Cordillera providing technical assistance.

PDRRM Officer Jeoffrey Borromeo said that the activity is the third of the six-part workshops to complete the province’s CDRA manuscript that will identify strategies to reduce the province’s risks and vulnerabilities to climate change and provide the LGU the necessary planning information to supplement the Comprehensive Land Use Planning (CLUP) process.

“With the identification of priority decision areas that needs to be addressed, the output of this workshop will reinforce the process in Comprehensive Development Plan (CDP) formulation and will become integral part of the province's Provincial Development and Physical Framework Plan (PDPFP),” Borromeo added.
