Baguio City - The Apayao delegation in now undergoing onsite final preparations for the Cordillera Administrative Region Athletic Association (CARAA) Meet, and Regional Academic Festival (RAF).
Billeted at the Mabini Elementary School (MES), the coaches, trainers and game officials will be attending various solidarity meetings, while athletes playing in combative events are preparing for the official weigh in.
Meanwhile, other athletes will be interviewed to verify the authenticy of their records.
MES was chosen as the billeting area for the Apayao delegation due to its proximity to the CARAA games and RAF events venue. The school has been preparing for the delegation's arrival for weeks, ensuring that the facilities are ready and that the students are ready to welcome their guests.
Consisting of over 500 participants for CARAA and RAF that include athletes, coaches, trainers, and other delegation officials, the Apayao delegation expressed their appreciation for the warm welcome they received from MES and Baguio City. They also expressed their excitement to participate in the contested events to showcase their skills and talents.
This year's CARAA games will feature few focused sports such as arnis, archery, billiards, athletics, boxing, chess, futsal, gymnastics, taekwondo, kyurogi, poomsae, tennis, wrestling, wushu, and swimming.
The games will be held in different venues throughout Baguio City, including the Baguio Athletic Bowl for athletics, boxing, and swimming, PFVR Gym for taekwondo, Doña Aurora Elementary School covered court for wrestling, and Woods gate Pelota Court in Camp Seven for Wushu.
Tertiary schools such as University of Baguio (UB) and Benguet State University (BSU) will host arnis and futsal respectively. 456 Billiards Hall in Session Road will host the billiards competition.
Further, paragames for bocce will be held at the back of Baguio Skating Rink, while archery will be sported at Melvin Jones Football field. Chess events will also be played at SDO Baguio third flood conference room, while gymnastics will be accommodated at Baguio City National High School (BCNHS) auditorium, and Benguet Sports Center in Wangal, La Trinidad, will host tennis games.
On the other hand, RAF events such as Regional Schools Press Conference (RSPC), will be conducted at Lucban Elementary School, and Regional Festival of Talents (RFOT), are lined up in different venues throughout the city.
Baguio City officials have assured the Apayao delegation and other participating provinces that they will provide a safe and secure environment for the duration of the CARAA and RAF. They have also encouraged the public to support and cheer for their respective teams.
With the opening ceremony scheduled for Saturday morning (April 29) in Melvin Jones Grandstand, the Apayao delegation is ready to compete and show what they are capable of in this first ever simultaneous CARAA and RAF activities.
