Luna, Apayao - More than 500 delegates from Apayao took off from Luna this morning, April 27, 2023, to participate in the 2023 Cordillera Administrative Region Athletic Association (CARAA) Meet and Regional Academic Festival to be held in Baguio City from April 29 to May 1, 2023.
The delegation, composed of members of various working committees, athletes, coaches, assistant coaches and chaperons, was led by Schools Division Superintendent Irene S. Angway. They will be housed at the Mabini Elementary School in Leonard Wood Road, Salud Mitra, Baguio City.
In a press release issued by DepEd CAR in its social media account DepEd Tayo Cordillera on Tuesday, April 25, this year’s CARAA will focus only on sports based on the Palarong Pambansa performance of the region in the past three years, in adherence to the guidelines issued by the Department through DepEd Memorandum No. 005, s. 2022.
Said sports events include Athletics, boxing, swimming taekwondo, wrestling wushu, Arnis futsal, billiards, paragames, archery chess, gymnastics and tennis.
On the other hand, major activities for the Regional Academic Festival (RAF) will be the Regional Schools Press Conference (RSPC) and the Regional Festival of Talents (RFOT).
RFOT contested activities will include various Technology and Livelihood Education (TLE) learning areas, while academic activities will include those covering Music, Arts, Physical Education and Health (MAPEH), English, Filipino, Madrasah Education Program, Edukasyon sa Pagpapakatao, Science, Araling Panlipunan, Special Education (SpED), and Kindergarten.
This year’s joint conduct of the 2023 CARAA and RAF is historically significant as this is the first time DepEd-CAR will hold both academic and sports events in one setting, the DepEd said.
