Apayao all set to celebrate 28th foundation day

Luna, Apayao - After a series of consultative meetings with various stakeholders in the province, Apayao is now all set to mark its 28th Foundation Day on February 14, 2022 dubbed as Say-am 2023.


Less than a month before the opening of the two-week long celebratory activities starting February 01 , guidelines and mechanics of each event, including schedules were finalized and adopted during the meeting held this January 05, 2022 at the Capitol Conference Hall in Luna, Apayao.


As agreed upon by the committees, sports tournaments and other athletic events will immediately start on February 1 after the opening ceremonies to be held at the BGVJR Memorial Gymnasium in Poblacion, Luna. It will be followed by all other activities that will run until the culminating activity on February 13th.

On the 11th, the celebration will be highlighted by a float parade featuring tourism products of the province followed by the Panaggaangrad (traditional games) and will be capped by a cultural night.


The festival will end on February 13 with huge competitions like the street dance competition, cookfest and a fellowship lunch in the morning and the Talentadong yApayao in the afternoon. At night will be the most-awaited comeback of the coveted beauty crown for the Dayag ti Apayao.


Simultaneous with the Dog Show on February 6 will be the soft opening of the Agro-industrial trade fair which will be judged from February 11 to 13 where local exhibitors on products that include fresh, processed, inland freshwater/aquamarine, planting materials, medicinal plants, cottage industries, forest products, mineral products, antiques, blacksmith products and organic farm inputs are encouraged to participate.


Provincial Tourism Officer Rebecca T. Mamba said that with these developments, all national government agencies and local government units are also expected to prepare their respective participating teams to ensure the success of this year's celebration in line with the theme "Apayao @28: Celebrating continuous progress, vibrant culture, and empowered people".


Specific details of all activities to be held in line with the celebration will be published in a separate posting, Mamba said.
