Apayao, Philippines – The province of Apayao under the leadership of Governor Elias Bulut Jr. recently earned gold awards after recording the highest tuberculosis testing rate in the country for the first and second quarter of 2022.
The province, through its Provincial Health Office, has been intensifying its campaign against the serious infectious disease that affects people’s lungs in a bid to help the government find and treat the target 2.5 million Filipinos infected by tuberculosis by the end of the year.
During the virtual awarding of the “Race to End TB 2022” held as part of the National Lung Month culmination program on Wednesday, August 31, the golden awards were conferred to Apayao for achieving population testing rate of 1.38% for the Quarter 1 and .24% for Quarter 2.
According to PHO-Apayao, the awards received by the province are a result of a convergence program implemented in the province that includes TB-HIV ((human immunodeficiency virus) Caravan, Demand Generation Activities, EmpowereD TB Patrol Teams, among others.
