Luna, Apayao - Nine students from Apayao Science High School (ASHS) in Luna, Apayao, showcased their exceptional mathematical prowess at the 2023 Philippine International Math Olympiad (PhIMO) held in Davao City from September 22 to 25, 2023.
These students demonstrated excellent brain power in solving complex mathematical problems, earning them both medals and merit awards.
The PhIMO, an annual math competition for students in grades 4 through 12, has drawn participants from various Asian countries. This year, the tournament was hosted in the Philippines, promoting friendly competition and fostering cultural exchange among participating nations.
Competitors hailing from countries such as Myanmar, Vietnam, Japan, Australia, Iran, Cambodia, Indonesia, Thailand, Malaysia, and the Philippines, came together to the King City of the South for this prestigious event.
Adrian Agngarayngay (Secondary 1), Chloe Nirah Lactam (Secondary 3), and Quennie Heart Orbosis (Junior Secondary) secured bronze medals, while John Mark Baddo and Sahara Koph Labueng (both Secondary 1), along with Jeanne Mariz Wamil (Secondary 2), were honored with merit distinctions.
Frances Seah Filog (Secondary 3), Kyanjin Cabralda, and Owen Earl Menor (all Senior Secondary) also earned well-deserved merit awards.
The success of these Yapayao students in the tournament is attributed to the guidance and mentorship of their dedicated trainers, Daine D. Gamiao, Jenny Ann B. Molina, and Noble Marissa C. Domingo.
