Baguio City - Four students from Apayao Science High School (ASHS) showcased their talent in scientific research innovation during this year's National Science Quest (NSQ), securing a place in the top five.
Held at the Skyrise Hotel in Baguio City from February 23 to 25, 2024, the event centered on the theme "Navigating Tomorrow's Frontiers: Unveiling the Boundless Horizons of Science and Mathematics."
Representing the Schools Division of Apayao, Bradley Duane Gabriel, Ainsley Jeevan Yeso, Yzha Rienne Jamoyo, and Marc Andrei Umayam participated in the three-day competition, which aims to promote scientific research and creativity among students globally.
Yeso, Umayam, and Jamoyo formed a team that showcased their robotics invention, the "Realtime Earthquake Alarm System," qualifying to represent their school. Their research focused on promoting earthquake safety awareness by promptly alerting individuals and potentially reducing casualties through early detection. Utilizing text messaging, the device validates seismic activity as soon as it is detected.
"We are indebted for the wonderful chance to deliver our study and to our coaches, teacher Vyonn Ubaldo and teacher John F. Martinez, we can't fully express our thankfulness for the consistent and committed assistance from the start of our preparation until now," the team expressed.
Gabriel, on the other hand, competed individually with his project "Smart Bike Shifter Development" and secured fourth place. His project aims to assist novice cyclists by automating gear shifts based on pedaling effort, eliminating the need for manual gear adjustments, and allowing riders to focus on enjoying their biking experience.
The students' passion for robotics and innovation was previously showcased at the 2023 Regional Science and Technology Fair, where they represented the province of Apayao.
This achievement is a source of inspiration for the yApayao youth, highlighting the limitless potential within each student and the outstanding heights attainable through dedication and hard work.
