Calanasan, Apayao- Some 32 vegetable growers from Calanasan, Apayao completed their five months of training at the Season-long Farmers' Field School (FFS) on Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) Highland Vegetable (Cabbage) Production for Food Security in collaboration with Provincial Office of Agricultural Services (POAS)and Local Government Unit (LGU) of Calanasan.
The graduation ceremony took place at RBJ Farm, Tanglagan, Calanasan,Apayao last November 16,2023 in which the graduates showcased their harvests.
With the training, it is hoped that the enhanced knowledge and skills of the vegetable growers in the community will increase number and quality of harvest thru sustainable agricultural practices like the Good Agricultural Practices.
GAP program bridges traditional farming practices and the demands of the market as well as the stakeholders' (customers) standards for Agricultural and non-Agricultural products.
GAP also supports the Food Safety Assurance RA 10611 to address customer's demand/preference for more nutritious and safe foods that are produced with care and concern for environmental protection. This also ensures the sustainability of Farmers Practices and Food Supply.
Mr. Roderick Paturay project coordinator encouraged the famers under his supervision “to put in practice what they have learned from the training or it will be useless if not practiced.”
Paturay likewise added that the start-up kits will be provided later to motivate the farmers to produce more safe and nutritious vegetables and to reverse the supply chain from Claveria to Tanglagan and from Tanglagan to Claveria and other neighbouring towns.
