Luna, Apayao - Some 30 local designers benefit from the two-day fashion design workshop organized by the Provincial Tourism Services Office (PTSO), in a bid to empower local talents and promote indigenous fashion in the province.
The two-day workshop began today, August 29, 2023, at the LMP Building, AETSC, Luna, drawing participants from the fashion industry of Apayao which include designers, dressmakers, tailors, and event outfit providers.
Highlighted by the presence of Mr. Monsour Espada, a renowned figure in the fashion industry and the official provider of production outfits during the Mr. and Miss Cordillera Youth Ambassadors for Autonomy, his wealth of experience and expertise is set to guide the participants through an immersive and enlightening journey into the world of fashion design.
The first day of the workshop has been dedicated to laying the foundation, covering the basic concepts that underpin the art of fashion design. Participants delved into the complexity of color theory, fabric selection, pattern making, and sketching. Espada shared valuable insights into the importance of common elements that form the backbone of successful design such as understanding body shapes, sizing, and proportion.
On the second day, participants are set to engage in practical applications of the principles learned during the first day. This hands-on experience will involve creating their designs, sewing, and embellishing garments, allowing them to put their newfound knowledge into practice under the guidance of Espada.
Further fostering local talent and promoting the unique fabric and designs native to the province, the PTSO is likewise planning to conduct additional activities aimed at showcasing the rich cultural heritage of the province.
One of the key agenda they want to realize is a fashion show that will feature the creations of these talented local designers. This will serve as a platform for these budding artists to display their skills and the culture of Apayao through their designs. Provincial Tourism Officer Rebecca T. Mamba hopes that this initiative will not only provide them with a stage to shine but also stimulate the growth of the local fashion industry.
With their newly obtained knowledge and with the guidance of renowned fashion designers, Apayao's local designers are set to carve a niche for themselves in the ever-evolving world of fashion.
