Luna, Apayao - Three (3) former rebels in Apayao received livelihood cash assistance from the Provincial Government of Apayao (PGA) and the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) today, April 12, 2023.
Two (2) former rebels received P20,000 each as financial assistance for their reintegration to the society and small income generating project. Likewise P5,000 was given to one (1) former rebel as a form of aid and for his immediate needs.
The beneficiaries include two (2) returnees from Kabugao and one (1) from Pudtol.
The awarding of cash assistance was given in a simple ceremony held at the Provincial Capitol in Luna. The returnees expressed their gratitude for the assistance, saying that it will help them start anew and leave their past behind.
The awarding of cash assistance is part of the government's Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integration Program (E-CLIP), which seeks to provide support to former rebels who have surrendered and are undergoing the process of reintegration into society.
The PGA has been actively promoting peace in the province by engaging with local communities and addressing their needs. The government also hopes that through this program, former rebels will have a chance to rebuild their lives and contribute to the development of their communities.
In a statement, Apayao Provincial Administrator Atty. Edmar Pascua said that the government is committed promoting peace and stability in the province. "We recognize that former rebels have a role to play in building a peaceful and prosperous community. Through this program, we hope to provide them with the necessary support and assistance to help them reintegrate into society," he said.
He also urged other rebels to surrender and take advantage of the government's program, which offers various forms of assistance such as livelihood support, skills training, and educational opportunities.
Further, he believes that by providing former rebels with these opportunities, they can help them transition from their previous lives as insurgents to becoming productive and law-abiding citizens.
The awarding of cash assistance to former rebels is just one of the many initiatives that the PGA is undertaking to promote peace and development in the province. PGA is committed to ensuring that the province remains safe and peaceful for all its residents.
