257 Indigenous learners in Apayao get cash aid from DSWD-SWAD


Luna, Apayao- 257 learners from the Indigenous groups, mostly from Agta tribe, received educational assistance under the Assistance In Crisis Situation (AICS) of the DSWD on October 19.


The AICS program serves as a stop-gap measure to support the recovery of individuals and families suffering from unexpected life events or crisis.


The educational assistance given aimed to help learners from indigenous group defray school expenses and/or cost of sending students/children to school such as school fees, school supplies, school projects, allowances and other related expenses.

The program targets 1,050 learners for Apayao, compromising 150 beneficiaries for each 7 municipalities.


In an interview, the agency stated that they have just distributed educational assistance to recipients in Pudtol and Flora simultaneously, with 257 in total where mostly are learners in elementary and secondary levels.


Moreover, they have set schedules for distribution to other beneficiaries in the remaining municipalities which shall be in the next weeks.



SWAD-Apayao Officer Gretchen P. Garcia conveyed that the identification of target clients/recipients was based on the implementing guidelines provided in DSWD Memorandum Circular 16 s 2022, or the Revised Guidelines on the implementation of the assistance to individuals in crisis situation.


Meantime, the grant was a congressional initiative of the Offices of the Provincial Governor Elias C. Bulut Jr. and Congresswoman Leah Bulut-Begtang, in collaboration with the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), which comes in time of the celebration of the 2023 Indigenous Peoples Month.
