Luna, Apayao - The Provincial Government of Apayao (PGA) through its Environment and Natural Resources Division (ENRD) is conducting a three-day capability training for its green guards starting today, March 22, 2023 at AETSC Clubhouse, Luna.
Said training is aimed to enhance the knowledge and skills of green guards on various aspects of environmental protection, such as waste management, biodiversity conservation, climate change adaptation, and to prepare them for their deputization as enforcers of existing local regulations to protect the province's natural resources.
The training is being conducted in partnership with Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR - CAR), Philippine Eagle Foundation (PEF), and other experts in the field of environment conservation.
Attended by 130 green guards from different municipalities and barangays in the province; lectures, workshops, and field activities will be given to equip them with practical skills and knowledge.
The first and second day of the training will focus on the basics of environmental protection, such as importance of biodiversity, ecosystems, and sustainable development. Concept of waste management, including proper segregation and disposal of garbage will also be introduced.
Likewise, the trainers will emphasize the importance of community involvement in protecting our natural resources and how green guards can play a crucial role in engaging their communities. Participants will also be given lectures on various procedures and protocols on arrest, search and seizures, and handling evidences.
On the final day, participants will engage in workshops and hands-on activities that will evaluate their accumulated knowledge and skills for the past two days.
ENRD Chief Marcelo Menor, in his message, expressed his gratitute to the participants for their commitment to protecting the environment. Echoeing the governor's plan, he stated that green this guards training will help strengthen the implementation of environmental laws and policies in the province.
"Sapay kuma ta makatulong daytoy nga capability training and deputization iti commitment tayo nga mangmaintain ken mangprotekta iti ipan-pannakkel tayo nga last forest frontier iti Cordillera." Menor said.
