Luna, Apayao - The intesified conduct of anti-drug operations resulted in the arrest of some 13 drug personalities in the Province of Apayao last year, the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA)-Apayao reported on Monday, March 6, 2023.
During the first quarter Provincial Anti-Drug Abuse Council (PADAC) meeting held jointly with the PPOC, PDC and Kapehan, the agency said that the achievement is the result of its year-round demand and supply reduction programs through education and community involvement activities and other sustainable alternative development programs
PDEA also reported that the Regional Oversight Committee on Barangay Drug Clearing (ROCBDC) has declared five out of six recently tagged as Drug Affected Barangays (DAB) drug cleared, while 10 out of 12 barangays were confirmed as ‘drug-free.’
Meanwhile, 71 out of the 96 barangays in the province have sustained their drug-cleared status.
Towards the end of 2022, PDEA said none have submitted application to the ROCBDC for the retention of their drug-cleared status.
“We will continue our close coordination with all duty bearers in the sustainability of the implementation of Supply Reduction, Demand Reduction and Barangay Drug Clearing Programs toward a drug-resistant and self-policing communities,” PDEA underscored.
PDEA likewise encouraged performing Municipal ADACs to apply for the “Balangay Seal of Excellence,” the highest recognition to be conferred to implementers of the Barangay Drug Clearing Program.
